Shockwave therapy, referred as low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave treatment (LI-ESWT), is an effective, non-invasive treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). LI-ESWT for ED works by applying low-intensity shock waves directly to the penis. These shock waves emitted by Li-ESWT cause increase in blood volume to the penis by inducing vasodilation, increasing local nitric oxide synthase production. Increased in blood volume and nitric oxide production further enhance new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), recruit and activate new cells, stimulate nerve regeneration, and promote tissue remodeling. Several studies have demonstrated a significant improvement in Erectile Function scores in patients as a result of Li-ESWT.
The treatment is completely comfortable and pain free. It requires a set number of shocks per minute, for a fixed amount of time. A session may last 15-20 minutes, and people may require repeat treatments. The energy from shock wave therapy stimulates new blood vessel growth and increases penile blood flow, which may improve erectile function. LI-ESWT also improves the effectiveness of pde5 inhibitors (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra), the oral drugs to treat ED. A recent study results in over 700 men showed a weekly 20 minutes of LI-ESWT treatment for five weeks caused a significant improvement in erection quality in people.
At SoHo Men’s Health, BTL Cellutone™ is used as a shock -wave therapy machine to enhance the microcirculation leading to increased blood supply and to increase the oxygen supply of the blood in the penis. These vibrations provide a strong stimulation by reaching deeper tissue that it is highly effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction with fewer treatment sessions and faster results.
