Below is a list of diseases we treat at SoHo Men’s Health:
- Anorectal Health Overview: For many people, anorectal disorders such as hemorrhoids, fistulas, abscesses, fissures, skin tags, stool incontinence are a source of discomfort, pain, embarrassment and worry. With prompt treatment and certain lifestyle modifications, these conditions can be treated. It is important to speak with a doctor as soon as symptoms develop so the condition does not get worse, or progress to more serious problems.
- Pilonidal Cyst: A pilonidal cyst is an abnormal pocket in the skin filled with hair and skin debris that is almost always found around the tailbone at the top of the cleft of the buttocks. These cysts can be extremely painful, especially while sitting.
- Anal Fissure: An anal fissure, or anal tear, can cause intense pain and bleeding during defecation, especially when they are non-healing. Anal intercourse is one of the risk factors for anal fissure.
- Anal Fistula: An anal fistula is a small tunnel that develops between the end of the bowel and the skin near the anus. They are normally the result of an anal abscess that has drained.
- Anal Abscess: Anal abscesses can cause pain, redness, swelling around the anus, fever and chills. The pain in the anal area is usually described as constant, throbbing pain that gets worse while sitting and having a bowel movement.
- Hemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids are distended blood vessels that form around the anus (external) or in the rectum (internal) as a result of straining during bowel movements and/or being overweight.
- Anal Incontinence: Anal incontinence, also called fecal (stool) incontinence is the inability to control bowel movements, causing unexpected leakage from the rectum. Anal incontinence can range from an occasional to constant leakage.
- Anal Warts: Anal warts, also known as condyloma acuminata, are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The HPV virus is a sexually transmitted disease and is passed from person to person by direct contact.
- Anal Skin Tags: An anal skin tag is an excess growth of skin around the anus. Anal skin tags are almost always benign and rarely cause pain. However, skin tags can cause discomfort and itching.
- Anal Cancer & Pap Smear Screening: The majority of anal cancers are caused by persistent infection of the anal canal with high-risk strains of human papillomavirus (HPV), the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. It is believed that HPV-related anal cancer can be prevented via primary (HPV vaccination) and screening with Pap smear test and examination with an anoscope.
